We have very exciting news. “The Plough” is embarking on a new journey.
After nearly eleven years of successful trading, we are very pleased to announce that from Monday 23rd December 2013, the Plough to Plate name and range will be owned and operated by Westcountry Fruit Sales, based in Falmouth.
We believe that this is a fantastic opportunity for our brand and range to go on to a bigger and brighter future. Westcountry Fruit Sales Ltd, incorporating The Essential Food Co., is the largest and most dynamic privately owned, 7-day-a-week delivered wholesale supplier of fresh, chilled and ambient food and drink products to the food service trade in Cornwall and Devon. Members of the same family have owned and operated the company since 1961, providing a consistent approach to their primary aim of delivering excellent produce to their customers where they want it, when they want it. They are now expanding their range to include more top-quality local products, in order to give customers old and new the best possible choice of goods and convenience of supply.
We, Nigel and Sherry, will be working side by side with the new team throughout the handover, and for several weeks afterwards, in order to help ensure a smooth transfer from our friendly and helpful service, to theirs.
We have thoroughly enjoyed our time in this business, building great relationships and having fun within the local food community. We cannot thank you enough for all your valued custom and supply. Although sad to be saying goodbye, we are very proud to be handing our lovely business over to such safe hands.
We will be visiting our customers and suppliers with a member of the Westcountry Fruit Sales team, during the first few weeks in January, to introduce you to them.

We are Plough to Plate, and here's what we do: whenever a shop or a chef needs the best West Country food and drink, we find it and take it to them; and whenever local producers need to get what they've made or grown into top notch shops and restaurants, we make that happen too. We're like a kind of local wholesaler, but we go above and beyond that.
We believe that our range of Cornish and West Country food and drink products is - at nearly 3000, currently – the most extensive you'll find anywhere. West Country food and drink isn't just our business, it's our passion, too. To bring top-quality local food to customers who care matters to us: it means money and jobs for small local businesses, shorter journeys for fresh food and drink, and a boost to the area's growing reputation for excellence in food.
We believe in working together in an ethical way. We like transparency all along the food chain and fair and sustainable pricing with no secret discounting. We aim to pay all our producers within 14 days of statement; in fact, the smaller they are, the quicker we pay! Our staff play a vital role. We train and develop them, empower them to make decisions, and try to make working life as flexible and jolly as we can. We try to be green in our working practices: climate-wise, not cabbage-like! Reducing food miles is the very point of Plough to Plate; and we reuse and recycle as much as possible. We even save all the stamps off envelopes and send them to the RSPB to help save the albatross.
Passionate, ethical, friendly, personable, knowledgeable, innovative-that's Plough to Plate. We might not get it bang on every day, but boy do we try!!
